May 12 – 17, 2009 (Tuesday through Sunday), Massachusetts 1st Alpha squad/unit is hosting a work project at the site of the future Emmanuel Children’s Home.  The property is owned by Genie Lombard and is located at 48-50 Old North Road, Pocasset (Bourne), Massachusetts, which is the west end of Cape Cod.  We will be clearing small trees near power lines, moving stones for minor seawall repair, generally grooming the grounds and cleaning the interior of the eighteen room house, recoating indoor trim with tung oil, and cleaning and sealing deck with linseed oil and turpentine (the last two items to be completed depending on man-hours available).

All work and no play makes 2Lt. Dagarin a dull old man.  Therefore, bring your baseball glove and favorite hardball bat for an afternoon (probably Friday) game.  We may also take an undefined field trip somewhere on the Cape.  You fishermen will also have time to try your skill, so bring your gear, including waders.  You can also try out your bathing suit.  We will have an efficient group wisdom search each morning after breakfast and the evenings will be filled with great fellowship.

There are beds for 24 people in the house, but you are welcome to bring a tent.  Thursday and Saturday suppers are courtesy of Genie.  You will be asked to share the cost of other meals (being prepared on site) of which you partake.  However, if you are coming for a day only, bring your own lunch and provide 24 hour notice if you will be staying for  a 6PM supper.

If you have a duty dress uniform, please wear it for the Sunday morning brethren-style assembly.  Otherwise, uniforms are optional; however, long pants are required at all times.  Also highly recommended are work boots and gloves.  Tics and Poison Ivy are an issue.

Some of us will be travelling to the site Thursday morning and our first (small) work detail will be that afternoon.  The last work detail will be on Saturday unless we try to do the deck task Sunday afternoon (as we cannot seal the deck until we are done using it).  Please come for whatever time you can.  In order for us to plan work details, meals and recreation, I would like to know, as best as you can plan it, when you intend to be with us.

Fathers and sons should be prepared to share from their journals, phase book meditation projects, etc.  My men know that my favorite question is ”What has God shown you about Himself today?” and that my alternate question is “What has God shown you from His Word today?”

Thank you,
